We do small, but frequent team building exercises where the folks can get to know each other better. And once a year we have a corporate retreat that provides everyone with an opportunity to spend quality time with each other. This fosters a collaborative and caring environment, which is just wonderful. We also do monthly all hands calls that keep us in the loop on new strategic ideas while also diving into tactical discussions as well. Everyone is given an opportunity to provide input on the ideas being discussed. Since we have a very open environment, I definitely see the hard questions being asked and management taking the time to discuss these questions in detail. This leads to better solutions for the firm.

In our field a lot of nurses are paid on a "per visit" basis, but my employer chooses to pay an hourly rate, allowing nurses to have ample time to provide quality care vs needing to get as many visits done as possible to make the same amount of money. I feel that this not only reduces stress on staff but also allows them to focus on the quality of visits rather than quantity. Something else that I find is unique to our company is that although most staff are “field” staff and are not working together in an office a lot of effort is placed on team building. In person in-services are done regularly as well as other in-person events to allow for the team to get to know each other and create a healthy co-worker environment.
