"In 2010, Chef José Andrés, founder of ThinkFoodGroup, formed World Central Kitchen, a non-profit which uses the power of food to nourish communities and strengthen economies in times of crisis and beyond. Notably, his team served over 3.6 million meals to the people of Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, World Central Kitchen has partnered with thousands of local restaurants, farmers, and community leaders around the country to combat food insecurity and create smart food policy. Most urgently, The World Central Kitchen team creates “systems of distribution” which allows it to reach tens of thousands in a day and has created a new model for disaster relief helping devastated communities recover and establish resilient food systems.
As somebody who saw a problem, José Andrés offers us insights in the power of offering solutions to systemic social issues, originating authentically from each one of us and collectively creating a better world for all."
